The Urban Elements- Benson Sunset

This is my first solo mural piece created back in early/mid June of 2014. You can find this piece in the Benson area just south of 61st and Maple, in Omaha NE.

Words cannot express the excitement I have in presenting this piece. It was a little over 2 years ago that I got inspired by other local artists who were already working on murals and large scale pieces...fast forward a few years, and you can see what that inspiration can foster.

The project started off as a piece commissioned by a local business owner in time for Benson First Friday's 2 year anniversary event. A few issues came about during the composition of the original piece idea, but I was able to find time to re-work my design and come up with what you see here.

[A few notable details about this piece]
-The photo reference came from a series of photo shoots put together by photographer Jami Olds, abstract artist Hope Dendinger (model) and myself.
-The stenciled graphic along the bottom right side is a map of a certain portion of the Benson area, and it contains the location of this mural piece.
-The color scheme matches that of a sunset theme, with all of the highlights and shadows coming from the left side of the piece. If you examine this a little closer, you'll notice that this theme fits perfectly in relation to where the mural is facing, the highlights and shadows on the piece and the direction of the where the sun actually sets (all facing eastbound).

I'm extremely thankful for this project. There were quite a few lessons learned throughout the entire process, involving the understanding of a proper time frame, contracts, working around unforseen issues, having ALL of your supplies with you, etc., but all in all, this was completely worth it. I wouldn't trade this experience for the world.
